If you could not attend this past Monday night, it’s not too late. The School & Community Forum is an evening of conversation that you can attend as your schedule allows.
Perhaps you’re wondering just what it’s all about. The Forum is our opportunity to listen to each other, discuss topics that we may have questions about, and make plans for our future. While I will always have suggested topics for our discussion if we need them, it’s preferred that topics come from ideas that you bring.
For example, this past Monday, after community members shared positives about the Alburnett district, we discussed traffic control and safety in our parking lot at dismissal, lunch schedules, Homecoming traditions, and the future of preschool. Although we held a very open dialogue about the concerns and possible plans, we didn’t necessarily choose the “right” solution. Instead, the input will be shared with school staff as we discuss the concerns brought forward.
This certainly doesn’t cover the full list of topics that we were able to get to together, but perhaps it gives you a flavor of what future Forums might be like. As a school community we need to be prepared to engage in the conversations. No, we will not always agree, and at times the questions asked will be tough, but we must always be willing to respectfully listen and discuss. The main point is this…let’s be prepared to ask what needs to be asked and listen to each other.
See you next time – September 10, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.
